Description

  • Length: 62.5 cm
of elongated ovoid form and plano-convex section, the front decorated with a raised and hatched red vertical stripe with horizontal bars at either end against a white ground, the reverse with raised triangular designs in black pigment against a white ground, deep-cut lug handle

Condition

There is substantial pigment loss to the face of the shield and a hairline crack to the left of the red vertical stripe, as evident in the reproduction. As evident is a crack to the left of the lug handle, old patina overall.
