Description

  • George Nakashima
  • "R" Bench
  • client's name on the underside
  • American black walnut with three East Indian rosewood keys

Provenance

Acquired directly from the artist

Condition

Overall in very good original condition. The bench shows normal signs of wear consisting of minor surface scratches, nicks and dings. There are two areas of edge losses to the bench measuring approximately two inches, both of which are to the lower edge and therefore are difficult to see once the bench is righted. Otherwise the surface has minor rubbing from use and one minor edge abrasion less than a quarter inch approximately 16 inches from the wider end. This appears the result of an impact and is minor. Feet with concentrated surface scratches and nicks as would be expected. Surface dirt to the interior of the fissure bridged by the three rosewood keys.
