In 1978, the International Paper Company consolidated multiple offices in Manhattan into a worldwide headquarters.  As one of the largest paper and forest product companies in the country, they sought an impressive surrounding with an interior designed by the famed firm, The Space Design Group.

George Nakashima completed only a limited number of corporate collections.  The individual works for International Paper were large in scale to accommodate the expansive space of the executive floor.  Several of Nakashima’s designs were adapted to accommodate the needs of a corporate environment, such as the lock and additional shelves designed for the “Kornblut” cabinet.

Coins 4 Kids was started by International Paper in 2004 to raise funds and awareness about the issue of world hunger.  The programs collect funds for the World Food Programme to establish school-feeding programs in some of the most impoverished areas of the world.

The issue of hunger is a profound worldwide problem.  However, nowhere is the situation more desperate or the need more compelling than in Africa.  The Coins 4 Kids program provides meals in schools to more than 70,000 pre-primary and primary-aged children in poverty stricken areas near Nairobi, Kenya.   All the proceeds from the items being sold from the International Paper Collection will go toward this courageous initiative.
