Condition

Overall in very good condition consistent with age and use. The metal base of the sculpture with evidence of significant rubbing. This is visible in the photograph which appears in the front of the catalogue. The shininess to the edges has worn away the original patina, which is visible amongst the rods in the center of base. Each of the rods is impressed ANACONDA H PHOS BRZ 1, which is the mark of the manufacturer of the rods. Some of these are very light and they do not detract from the overall visual impression of the piece, and were original to the work. This piece was used in a corporate setting and therefore would likely to have been seen and touched by the public. There is also evidence of surface dirt, and possibly minor areas of corrosion. With less than 10 noticeably bent rods, all of which are minor; the majority remain straight. The wood base is in overall good condition with only edge chips and losses, surface scratches and nicks to the veneer throughout concentrated to the edges. A dynamic form with a particularly rare sculptural base. This lot is being sold with a certificate of authenticity from Val Bertoia, the designers son.
