Catalogue Note
The device on this plaque is the marital arms and motto of Henry Paget who married Jane Champagne in 1767. He inherited the title Baron Paget in 1769 and this plaque bears his new baronial arms, dating it to 1769 at the earliest. By 1784 Baron Paget was created Earl of Uxbridge and would certainly have used his new armorial if the plaque was after this date. It is most likely, therefore that the plaque was created in or shortly after 1769.
Alison Kelly in her book Mrs Coade's stone states that the company started production in 1769 which allied to the armorial which was kindly deciphered by the College of Arms puts this plaque in the very earliest years and possibly the first year of production of the Coade company.
