Catalogue Note

Pieter Vanden Daele was born in Oudenaarde in 1971, and from an early age was fascinated by fishing and the underwater world.

In 2000 he started working in a Belgian bronze foundry, where he learnt the process of sculpting, moulding, casting and patinating.

Shortly afterwards he started sculpting fish and for his original models used organic materials such as leaves, wood, leather and fungi which give his finished sculptures in bronze their distinctive and highly original surface.
