Surface of stone weathered; one old repair to corner of second step missing as per illustration; opposite corner with old repair; two corners of sundial pedestal with old repairs one visible in illustration; three acanthus leaf tips missing from baluster; otherwise minor chips and marks as one would expect; overall condition commensurate with age

Catalogue Note
Thomas Heath was apprenticed to the scientific instrument maker Benjamin Scott in 1712 and is first recorded as working alone in 1720. He ran a successful business selling a full range of mathematical instruments as well as compasses, theodolites, gunners callipers and sundials. The business was situated next door to the Fountain Tavern on the Strand.
