Catalogue Note
Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) completed the marble original of this group, commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, in 1622. In 1908 the statue was purchased by the state and moved from the Villa Ludovisi to the Galleria Borghese, where it now stands.
