Catalogue Note
The design is one of thirteen different models on the marble parapets separating the terrace of the Palace from the Parterre Nord and from the Parterre Midi at Versailles. These particular urns are copies of originals believed to have been cast by Duval from designs by Louis XIV's goldsmith Claude Ballin (1615-1678).
