Catalogue Note

Introduced in 1928 this movement, manufactured for Rolex by Hermann Aegler, was rectangular and had its winding barrel at one end and a large balance at the other. This allowed a larger barrel, and therefore longer autonomy (up to 58 hours). At the same time, the layout allowed a larger balance in a small watch thereby increasing accuracy. The Rolex Prince was often called a "Doctor's watch" or "Nurse's watch" because the relatively large subsidiary seconds dial was easily readable and useful for functions like pulse readings. Rolex Prince models continued until the mid-1940s. The classic dress watch design was a great success and the Prince range remains highly collectible today. Available in a variety of styles, examples with jumping hours are especially rare.
