DIAMOND CORSAGE ORNAMENT, 1880s

Designed as an articulated floral and foliate spray, the leaves, roses and buds set with rose-cut diamonds, accompanied by a two pronged en tremblant hair fitting, ornament detachable in three smaller parts, each applied with a brooch fitting, three additional brooch fittings for the two detachable flower heads and the bow motif, fitted case by A Bourdon de Bruyne, Bijoutier Joailler Orfevre de S.M la Reine des Belges, Gand, one diamond point deficient.

Estimated total diamond weight approximately 8.0 - 12.0 carats, with the three principal stones spreading at approximately 0.40-0.45, 0.35-0.40 and 0.12-0.15 carats respectively. Bright stones of mixed colours and clarities. Some oxidisation to metal's surface on some of the flower petals but only noticeable in a few places. Piece looks like it has recently been cleaned as there is very little evidence of tarnish. Whole piece separates into three separate brooches, lockable catches between each section a little stiff. Bow motif and two flower motifs all removable can be used with three additional brooch fittings or en tremblent hair fitting. Mount with light scratches to the reverse consistent with age and wear. One small rose-cut diamond point deficient from a stamen of the principal flower motif, one claw damaged. In very good condition.
