RUBY AND DIAMOND "CERCLE" CLIP, VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, 1930s

Of odeonesque design, the hinged clip embellished at the centre with a cluster of calibré-cut rubies between lines of circular-cut diamonds, signed Van Cleef & Arpels Paris and numbered, maker's marks and French assay marks.

French assay marks for platinum. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 1.60 - 1.80 carats, bright stones. The rubies a strong purplish red hue a medium dark tone with strong saturation, presenting typical inclusions visible with a 10x lens, some with small surface scratches. The rubies are well matched in size and colour. Scratches to polished surfaces on front consistent with use of the piece. In excellent condition.
