IVORY AND ENAMEL PHOTOGRAPH FRAME, CARTIER, CIRCA 1900

Description

Centring on an oval glass compartment bordered by white enamel bead work motifs, to an outer frame accented with lines of blue and white enamel, to an ivory back, measurements approximately 75mm x 76mm x 12mm, signed Cartier Paris, French assay marks, ivory damaged.

Condition

French assay marks for 18 carat gold to frame, silver gilt stand. Portrait miniature to the centre depicting an unknown Edwardian gentleman, probably on ivory, signed to the right hand side, Marc Antigna. Small chip to bottom edge of glass. Beaded white enamel border several beads damaged or chipped. Blue and white guilloché enamel with one small area of damage to bottom right, some concave bubbles which would have been present at time of manufacture. Typical characteristic of ivory known as an engine turning pattern clearly visible to reverse, severely cracked with trapped dirt making the cracks appear dark in colour. Some scratches to metal consistent with age and use. In overall good condition.
