COLLECTION OF GEM-SET AND DIAMOND BROOCHES, LATE 19TH AND EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Description

Comprising: one designed as a hinged butterfly, its wings set with circular-, single-, rose-cut diamonds, calibré-cut rubies and onyx; another embellished with floral and foliate motifs, set with circular-cut diamonds; one applied with a bow motif set with seed pearls; another decorated with a stylised insect, its body accented with rose-cut diamonds and circular-cut rubies, one seed pearl deficient; and one similarly decorated with a stylised insect set with a circular-cut garnet within surrounds of seed pearls, one seed pearl deficient.

Condition

Butterfly: diamonds bright and lively, onyx well polished, good movement in spring fitting. Floral brooch: Mounted in silver and gold. Bright, lively diamonds, pin fitting a little bent, traces of dirt to reverse could benefit from a professional clean. Bow brooch: a little twisted, tarnish visible to pin especially on reverse, could benefit from a professional clean. Insect brooch: set with synthetic rubies of slightly purplish red hue, medium saturation. Mounting and pin a little bent. Traces of lead solder to the legs, visible from the front. Please note this piece does not have seed pearls. Circular insect brooch: garnet a rich brownish red hue of moderately strong saturation, seed pearls graduated in size, well matched, the right hand seed pearl eye a little damaged, as stated in the cataloguing one seed pearl from thorax is deficient. Mount with scratches consistent with age and wear. Collection in overall good condition.
