Catalogue Note
Following the death of Paul Egell in the early 1750's in whose workshop he had been working, Johann Peter Wagner moved to Würzburg to work for the court sculptor Johann Wolfgang der Auwera, whose widow he later married. Taking over from his master, Wagner spent the remainder of his life working on commissions for the Prince Bishop of Würzburg.
