A small mahogany and fruitwood table clock, Allam & Clements, London, circa 1790

4½-inch enamel dial set within a silvered surround overlaid with a gilt-brass foliate mask, the ogee arch inset with a plaque signed Allam & Clements, Bond Street and flanked by subsidiary dials for regulation and strike/silent, the two train trip repeating fusee movement signed Allam & Clements, London with five knopped pillars, verge escapement with rise and fall regulation and engraved border to the backplate, the formerly ebonised case with carrying handle, cone finials, brass framed aperture to the front door and bracket feet, the interior of the back door stamped with an inventory number 2651A

A presentation plaque, removed from the case, provides some 20th century provenance for this clock; it reads `Presented to Robert Henry Mitchelmore Pillar by the Governor and Company of the Bank of England in recognition of his outstanding services in the rebuilding of the Bank from 1924-1942'.

A very attractive small clock by desirable makers, subsidiary dials and signature plaque cracked, silvered surround tarnished, movement clean and appears to run, the case was originally ebonised and re-veneered, probably about 100 years ago. The interior of the back door is stamped with an inventory number, probably for Percy Webster; with pendulum, winder, two case keys and a presentation plaque
