An unusual turtleshell and walnut longcase clock, Johannes von Strickling, Mannheim, circa 1740

10¼-inch pewter dial signed J Strickling A Manheim, matted centre with concentric alarm disc and well pierced hands, the rack and bell striking movement with ring-turned pillars, smooth barrels, anchor escapement and silk suspension, the waisted brass-bound hood with ebonised ball finial, veneered with red stained turtle shell and inset at the front with a simulated flower trellis fret and ivory stringing, the walnut trunk with crossbanded door inset with a lenticle, similarly decorated plinth, the sides crossbanded and divided into panels
