Catalogue Note

These portraits show three of the eight children of George Child Villiers, 5th Earl of Jersey and his wife, Lady Sarah Sophia.  Their eldest daughter, Lady Sarah Frederica Caroline (d.1853) married the Austrian Prince Nicholas Esterhazy in February 1842 following a six year engagement.  Their second daughter Lady Clementina was a constant companion to her mother and died unmarried in 1858.  The Hon. Francis Villiers was their fourth son and died in 1862.
