A fine kingwood credenza by François Linke Paris, circa 1890

applied with gilt bronze mounts, of bowed break-front form, the frieze drawer above a panel door inlaid with radiating veneers and flanked by open marble shelves with mirror backs, the inside backs of the locks stamped Ct LINKE SERRURERIE PARIS

Reasonable overall condition. Repairs to rear left corner of the marble top. Minor losses to bandings mainly to the rear edges of the sides and bottom edge of the plinth. MInor bruising to the top edge of the central door and also some minor veneer damage to the top left corner of the same door. The central door lock detached. One adjustable shelf to the central door interior. Minor old marks and scratches throughout. A fine quality cabinet.

François Linke (fl. 1882-1935) of 170 Faubourg Saint Antoine was possibly one of the most sought after cabinet makers of the late 19th and early 20th century.  He made a wide range of furniture in mainly the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles, many copied directly from 18th century examples.

 

The lock on this cabinet has been stamped by François'  brother Clement who was employed by Linke to make the keys and locks for his furniture.
