Description

including a pair of armchairs, in Gothic style, with pierced splats and stuffed seats, on square tapering legs, some bearing a paper label `HYDE',

Condition

This set of chairs is in `country house' condition. All have loose joints which will need attention. The upholstery on all is worn and will need to be replaced. All have old worm damage to the rails. All have old marks and scratches and could benefit from re-polishing. Subject to this, five chairs are in good condition. The remaining chairs have repaired breaks as follows: Chair 1: This has a broken front leg, a repaired splat and a repaired top-rail. Chair 2: This has a repaired centre splat and one rear leg is plugged adjacent to the seat rail masking a repair to the join. Chair 3: This has a repaired toprail and minor repairs to the splats Chair 4: Top rail repaired and all splats repaired adjacent to the join with lower back rail Chair 5: Top rail badly broken with some consequent loss to timber. Old screw hole visible. Splats broken and repaired adjacent to the join with the lower rail Chair 6: Top rails broken and repaired to the back with patches. Splats cracked and repaired. Chair 7: Rear seatrail plugged adjacent to seat rail Armchair 1: Top rails badly cracked and clumsily repaired with a metal brace to the back and a visible screw to the front. Two splats cracked. Armchair 2: Top-rail badly cracked and repaired with a later section of timber. The right hand arm with a similar repair. Splats cracked. One rear leg with an inset section of timber.
