6¼-inch chapter ring, the dial plate signed Roger Moore de Ipswich fecit above engraved tulips and with single hand, the divided posted movement with early conversion to anchor escapement and outside count wheel, the frame with urn finials, foliate scroll frets, slender corner columns and ball feet, the rear with iron back, hanging loop and wall spikes; with a later wall bracket

Condition
Everything needs a clean. Movement formerly with verge escapement and centre mounted pendulum, ratchets replaced, original side doors cut for the pendulum and now patched. With pendulum and 2 weights (1 surplus).

Catalogue Note
Little is known of the early life of Roger Moore. He was married to Elizabeth Page in Ipswich in 1687 and their first son, also Roger, was born in 1688. Their second son, Thomas, was born in 1690 and he was to become the most famous of the Ipswich clockmakers. It would appear that Roger(I) died in 1727.
