Catalogue Note
In 1481 the feast day of St. Anne, patron saint of mothers, widows and single women, was adopted in the church calendar and it is from this time that depictions of her with the young Virgin and the Christ Child become popular in Germany and in the Netherlands as a symbol of the Immaculate Conception.
