A French Transition gilt bronze mounted Vernis martin bracket clock, case by Lieutaud circa 1760

27-cm enamel dial with Roman numerals signed D.F. Dubois A Paris and finely pierced engraved gilt hands, dial plate reading Remontés A Draite, Remontés A Gauche, for a removed lever Sonne/non s. and Sourdinne, verge movement marked DFDB1768 lacking silk suspended pendulum, rare fusee and chain for the rack quarter striking which is mostly removed, shaped case surmounted by an urn marked at the back B. Lieutaud, adorned throughout with painted flowers on a crème ground, fine foliate gilt bronze mounts to the sides, the shaped glazed door with a musical trophy, shaped base raised on claw feet, together with a matching similarly signed ogee shaped bracket

Balthazar Lieutaud was elected maître in 1749. Established first in the rue de la Pelleterie and then rue d'Enfer, Paris, Lieutaud known to have worked with such maître-bronziers as Charles Grimpelle, Edme Roye and Caffieri Jeune.

 A related vernis Martin bracket clock stamped B. Lieutaud is in the Passerat collection (illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Française,  p. 161.), while a further japanned bracket clock stamped B. Lieutaud was offered anonymously at Sotheby's London, 5 July 1985, lot 94.
