of inverted bell shape, cast with a band of mannerist ornament, a second band beneath the lip cast with the inscription PETRUS VANDEN GHEIN ME FECIT MCCCCCLX, copper golden patina partly coloured grey; together with a pestle of wrought iron (2)

Catalogue Note
The signature refers to Petrus van den Ghein II (died 1598), descendant of a family of Malines bronze workers. A later example of his work, dated 1591, is preserved in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
