Catalogue Note

The view depicts the cascades in the park of the palace of Wilhelmshöhe, near Cassel. It was occupied by Jérôme Bonaparte, the younger brother of Napoleon, who presided over the short-lived kingdom of Westaphalia from his residence in Kassel between 1807-13. During this time, Wilhelmshöhe was renamed 'Napoleonshöhe', and was so titled on this plate, before the offending name was erased along with the Imperial factory mark, presumably following the downfall of the emperor.
