painted by Louis Bertin Parant, signed on the front 'LB Parant', in imitation of cameo with a depiction of Sappho composing an ode to Phaon, titled in black on the reverse 'Sapho écrivant une Ode à Phaon.', the burnished gilt rim tooled with a foliate border between pearl bands
Condition
Tiny scratch to painting visible top left, another to the right visible just below the middle and two tiny pin pricks just above, minor scratching to gilding. Very small area of gilt missing from back of rim.
