A mahogany longcase clock, Samuel Bentley, Kingsbridge, circa 1785

12-inch dial with rococo mask spandrels, the centre with an engraved scene of a galleon sailing by a house on the nearby shore, signed Samuel Bentley, Kingsbridge and with seconds dial and calendar sector, well pierced steel hands, the movement with five knopped pillars and rack and bell striking, the case of rich colour with three brass finials above a swan neck cresting with brass terminals and inlaid with ebony and box stringing, brass capped reeded hood pillars, the trunk with crossbanded door and inset with panels of well figured wood within strung borders, similarly veneered plinth with shaped apron and tall feet
