4½-inch dial with cherub spandrels, signed Chr. Gould, Londini fecit, matted centre and single hand, the movement with baluster pillars, verge escapement and bell striking with outside count wheel, the case of good colour with domed caddy cresting and gilt-brass finials, the integral bracket with scroll supports and shaped apron

Catalogue Note
Christopher Gould, a highly respected maker, was made a Free Brother in the Clockmakers' Company in 1682; he worked near the Royal Exchange and took a number of apprentices but was declared bankrupt in 1706 and supported by charity payments from 1713, the year he was made Beadle, a position he held until his death five years later
