Description

cast seated cross-legged in dhyanasana on a cloth thrown over a double cushion base cast with a seven and a nine-character inscription, the hands gilt and clasped together in the dhyana mudra, wearing a long floral-diaper bordered robe falling in deep U-shaped folds around the body and arms, the facial features finley modelled and gilt with downcast eyes and a calm meditative expression

Catalogue Note

The present sculpture is inscribed with the name of the Luohan and the three-character inscription on the back of the figure reads 'panruo ping' which is a Buddhist term and can be translated as 'prajna' or 'wisdom'.
