the quatre-lobed compressed globular body rising from a tall spreading foot to a widely flaring trumpet mouth, covered overall with a rich lustrous glaze of dark red tone infused with turquoise-blue splashes to the exterior and turquoise to the interior, draining to a buff tone at the rim

Catalogue Note

A flambe-glazed gu-shaped vase, in the Tokyo National Museum, is illustrated in Sekai toji zenshu, vol. 15, Tokyo, 1983, col. pl. 278, from the Hirota collection. See another Qianlong vase sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 2nd May 2000, lot 614; and one sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30th May 2006, lot 1367.
