Description
the censer carved around the globular body with archaistic wave-form bands enclosing C-scrolls and O-shapes, between stylized keyfret borders around the foot and below the lipped rim, flanked by a pair of loop handles emerging from dragon masks and terminating with pendant tabs, similarly decorated on the square stand with an undulating wave scroll below a keyfret band, the wood cover pierced with three ruyi-head motifs, surmounted by an oval rose-quartz finial (3)
Condition
The top and bottom sheets of ivory on the base are each broken across the span and reglued to the cuboid base. The carving to the sides are in good condition.
The carving on the vase is in good condition. The handles have been reglued and one does not fit flush against the bottom section. Each handle has a crack along the interior of the mid-section, and the right side handle (based on the catalogue image) with an age crack 1 1/2 inch long at the dragon's face. The base also appears to have been reglued to the bottom.
The cover with a small chip to the rim 1/8 inch long, with two surface scratches to the top 1 1/2 inches and the other 1/4 inch. The rose-quartz reglued.
