Description
each of ovoid form, outlined in underglaze-blue and enamelled in green with two scaly five-clawed dragons, each striding in fierce pursuit of a 'flaming pearl' amidst swirling cloud and fire scrolls, between a band of upright lappets around the base and the bajixiang ('Eight Buddhist emblems') encircling the neck, inscribed to the base with a six-character seal mark in underglaze-blue (2)
Condition
The pair is in good condition with only minor surface flaws. One jar has a tiny iron spot just above a dragon. This same piece has a few faint glaze crackles and is painted in finer detail especially on the bajixiang. The other piece has minor areas of pinpricks and pinholes and also has a small iron spot; it is also very slightly shorter by approximately 1/8 inch. Both have a few minor glaze flakes with characteristic enamel cracklure. The green on the jars are slightly lighter than on the catalogue image.
