Description

of squat baluster form, rising from splayed legs to a globular middle section, the straight neck flaring to a squared mouthrim, painted in rich underglaze-blue to the top section with a man kneeling before a dignitary surrounded by attendants, the middle section of two men kneeling before a general in his field tent with soldiers by his side, the bottom section painted with pine tree needles and branches, an apocryphal Chenghua mark to the base

Condition

The vase is in good overall condition with very slight warpage to the rim, which does not affect the body. There are small areas of fritting along the rim and pinholes at the top of the neck. There are minor iron spots on the neck and body, and concentrated areas of tiny air bubbles beneath the glaze affecting the foot and the lower section of the neck. The small border above the foot with a 3 inch horizontal area of an old attempted restoration to cover burst air bubbles, now flaking.
