the spacious central well painted in aerial perspective with a pair of lions playing with a ball tied with scrolling ribbon, the steep rounded sides left plain, the everted rim decorated with three distinct diaper grounds interspersed with six cartouches, including a pair of books, an artemisia leaf, and a ruyi scepter, all painted in shades of underglaze-blue, the exterior sides painted in iron-red with prunus blossoms

Condition

This basin is in good overall condition with minor surface flaws, including small glaze pulls at the inside edge of the cavetto, and small areas of kiln grit and pinholes to the interior well. The exterior has scattered areas of pinholes and pinpricks and one small glaze chip. The white in the catalogue image is lighter than on the basin itself.
