Description
- porcelain
the cylindrical body finely enamelled with a scene of ladies engaged in leisurely pursuits, including music and dance, set against scholarly objects and a pine tree next to stylised rock formations, all under a full moon and clouds, the angled shoulders with a band of four cartouches enclosing be-ribboned auspicious emblems surrounded by a wan-diaper ground, the straight neck depicting a panoramic depiction of a scholar and attendant on a lush river landscape, rising to an everted rim decorated with scrolling clouds
Condition
The vase is in overall good condition. There are areas of kiln grit to the shoulder, to one of the ladies playing an instrument, and to the two ladies standing behind the dancer. The body has minor nicks and scratches and there is wear to the enamel around the shoulder. The color in the catalogue is deeper and more saturated than on the piece itself, particularly the greens and reds.
