A Blue and White 'Shou' Charger Ming Dynasty, 16th / Early 17th Century

Description

the interior with a stylized shou character medallion encircled by a ring of scrolling clouds issuing seven flaming ruyi-heads, surrounded by two registers of smaller shou medallions alternating with egrets in flight, the curved exterior painted with a scene of fluttering insects with birds perched on delicate camellia trees, all painted in underglaze-blue, the base with the four character hall mark fu gui zhia qi ('fine vessel for the rich and honorable')

Condition

There is a chip to the footrim 1.5 inches wide. The exterior has a glaze crack 1.75 inches long. The interior has a concentrated area of kiln grit to the shou character and between 1 and 3 o'clock, and at 7 o'clock on the catalogue image. The rim has one 1/4 inch long section of kiln grit and is very slightly warped. The charger is in overall good condition.
