Catalogue Note
The design on this bowl is unusual, although a bowl carved with a similar scroll with two blooms only, excavated at Yanglin, Shaanxi province and now in the Yaozhou Kiln Museum, was included in the exhibition The Masterpieces of Yaozhou Ware, The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, 1998, cat.no. 92; and another in the exhibition Song Ceramics from the Kwan Collection, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1994, cat.no. 93. A piece with a related design with blooms with five distinct petals was sold at Christie's New York, 30th November 1983, lot 58.
