There is a russet and chalky inclusion, possibly enhanced, visible in the photo, that has been skillfully incorporated into the carving of the sage's robe. On the back, there is an area of calcification along the hems of both the sage and the boy. There are small nicks to the edge of the sage's right sleeve and the the foreleg of the deer. Overall the sculpture is in good condition.
