Description

carved in thread relief, the upper section of the body with scrolling and 'leaf' pattern archaistic motifs, the domed cover similarly carved, all above a band of petal ruyi-head lappets, the shoulder adorned with two lion heads and fixed rings, with keyfret borders at the base and the rim, the stone of pale green tone (2)

Condition

There is an indigenous vein that traverses diagonally across the upper right portion of the body, visible in the catalogue. The cover has a minute nick to the rim. The mouthrim of the cover has been reduced. The cover might be a replacement. There are small nicks on both ears of the lion handle on the right, and on the right ear of the lion handle on the left. The color is darker and grayer in tone than appears in the catalogue photograph. Both the cover and the vase are in good condition overall.
