Description

the round flattened body rising from a splayed foot, the central band carved in low-relief with an archaistic taotie mask, with two further taotie masks to the sides, the top and bottom registers with beribboned archaistic motifs, with two qilong writhing around the straight neck, the curved shoulders flanked by monster-mask handles, the cover with canted roofed sides, all below an oval striated knop, the stone of pale tone with russet and white inclusions (2)

Condition

There is an area of russet and white inclusion on the back of the moonflask, with concentrations to the bottom left of the taotie mask and in the left side of the upper register. Both the cover and the flask are slightly more celadon in color than the catalogue image. They are in good condition overall.
