Description
the interior carved through the red lacquer in fine relief, the center with an immortal riding an ox followed by an attendant, framed by a weeping willow, pine trees, rocks, and a pavilion, all reserved on floret-diaper ground, the curved sides of the interior and exterior with floral scrolls, with a rounded rim indented at the four corners, incised to the black-lacquered base with a six-character mark, wood box (2)
Condition
There is a crack across the bottom left of the central panel 1.5 inches long, which is extended from a larger crack around the panel and has caused slight lifting though the structure is firm. The carving overall is well preserved with minor cracks around the immortal. There are two short cracks along the right side of the top rim, the bottom of the rim with three tiny dents or scratches, the left rim with a very fine and small crack. The base has a series of horizontal age cracks and the footring has some tiny nicks. For its age and with just minor retouching, this dish is in good condition.
