Description

the miniature cup in the form of a peach, carved through the cinnabar lacquer on a floret-diaper ground and below a keyfret border with three green branches forged to the surface, each issuing smaller branches with blossoms and flowering buds, further carved with a butterfly to the side, the interior lined with silver, with a cylindrical fitted ivory box, inscribed jiusitang to the flattened cover, stand (4)

Condition

The box is purported to have belonged to Qianlong's sixth son Yong Rong, whose hallmark was jiusitang. The cup is in good condition with just minor retouching to a tiny section next to the butterfly. The ivory box and cover match along the grains, but do not fit perfectly as the cover seems to have cracked at one side and was reglued. The box has minor nicks and scratches.
