Description
of rectangular form, the flat surface of the cover incised with a centered title plaque reading huang ming zu xun, flanked by two dragons and clouds, the canted corners with bands of rolling waves, the straight sides displaying gilt lotus tendrils, each framed within classic bands, the box finely incised and gilt with ruyi-form clouds, attached at the front with a metal clasp and the back with two hinges, the interior lacquered red
Condition
The box is evenly worn over the entire surface, minor areas of filled-in material registering dark against the red ground at the corners of the top. All corners and the join at one side with shrinkage gaps, left and right rear corners of top with evidence of old repair, hinges moved from original location and replaced. Gold fill inlay missing in some areas or discolored. The top with slight warp toward the front and with 1/4 inch chip at the front.
