Description

the nobleman shown seated with arms raised and hands clasped as if to hold a tablet, dressed in layered official's robes, the high underskirt tied with long beaded sashes decorated with the character trailing down to the hem, a pendant strung with beads placed high on the chest, the face with strong features and eyes lowered in a solemn gaze, flanked by pendulous ears and hair pulled up and under a beaded official's cap

Condition

The figure has old horizontal breaks across the chest, navel, and thigh; two vertical breaks down the folds of the robe, which extend over the shoulders and to the back; the two cracks at the navel with associate splits on both sides; and the face with two vertical cracks on either side of the nose. Both hands and feet with reglued breaks. There is lacquer flaking and loss behind the head, at the lower back, and the hat. Old retouching visible around the cracks, but there is not a lot of restoration and the breaks have all been reglued. There are expected age cracks to the lacquer. Remaining traces of red pigment. For its age, this is in good overall condition.
