Description

of double scroll form, the cover painted with two rectangular panels, one enclosing a river landscape scene, the other with a three-line calligraphic inscription, the base with apocryphal mark of Jiajing

Condition

The box and cover are in good overall condition with the exception of some tiny nibbles and frits to the corners of the box; slight misfire to the glaze on the interior; minor burst glaze bubbles; and a short hairline firing crack to the inside corner of the cover. It should be noted that the underglaze-blue is of a richer and warmer tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
