Description
bearing the arms of Dom Jose Ribeiro da Fonseca Figueiredo e Sousa, the form based on a moulded Alcora faience shape, all within elaborate scrollwork borders in fine bright enamels incorporating eight bearded masks to the outer border, scattered with butterflies and insects around the central cartouche
Condition
The dish is in very good condition with the exception of very minor fritting to the rim and raised moulding to the centre; light rubbing to the iron-red decoration; minor firing imperfections to the yellow enamel on the moulded bands; and eight short hairline firing lines across the width of the moulding of the central panel. It should be noted that the enamels are slightly brighter and richer in tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
