Description
of inverted baluster form, painted with pheasants amongst flowers and foliage, set with a base metal spigot, the fluted basin similarly decorated
Condition
Cover:
small area of discoloured restoration to rear right hand corner, approx, 1cm. purple enamel to one bloom to a flower has completely `flaked'. Very minor frits to rims and knop. Some wear to gilding to the knop.
Cistern:
some fritting to edges of dolphin backplate, with loss to purple enamel, one dolphin's head chipped, and with old colour filling. Some flaking to purple enamel of rockwork around the body, approx 2cm., other minor areas of purple enamel flaked. Small frits typical of Kangxi porcelain around the rims and edges.
Basin: 38cm., 15in.
Some flaking to purple enamels, one bloom erased. The wings of both birds flaked (see additional photograph of interior). Small 1cm chip to diaper border, minor typical frits to rims.
