well painted in a vivid palette with continuous court scenes around the neck and body, separated by a key-fret border, the base with an encircled lingzhi fungus in underglaze-blue

The vase is of a good colour but has been professionally restored to a high standard. The neck has been broken where it meets the shoulder along the luting line, and it is thought that the whole section has been broken in two with several sections of the rim also broken and restuck. The neck and upper shoulder of the body shows signs of over-painting which covers the damage, therefore hard to quantify. However the figurative scene around the lower body is of good quality and it is still a striking piece.

A Kangxi vase of this yen yen form, depicting a similar figural court scene, from the Cleveland Museum of Art, was sold at Christie's New York, 21st September 2000, lot 314, and again, 20th September 2005, lot 317.
