The painting is in good overall condition with the exception of: minor staining along the edges. Scattered small holes across the painting. Several small areas of loss to the silk with associated restoration, particularly along the upper edge. The colours of the painting are slightly brighter and more vibrant than the illustration suggests.

Yun Shouping, Weida and Zhengshu by style name, Nantian and Dongyuan by sobriquet, was a native of Wujin, Jiangsu province. Considered as one of the Six Great Painters of the early Qing Dynasty, he is acknowledged as the founder of a school of painting based in the Changzhou region, also referred to as the Yun School. Yun's bird and flower paintings earned him recognition in the Manchu court and although he was not a court painter, his style was adopted by the orthodox court painters of the period.
