A CARVED CELADON 'DRAGON' VASE AND COVER MING DYNASTY

Description

freely carved around the baluster body with a scaly dragon above a lotus petal band, the tall neck with stiff plantain leaves below a cupped mouth and domed lotus leaf cover, all covered in celadon glaze of bluish-green tone, 25.7cm., 10 1/8 in; together with a carved celadon 'peony' vase, Ming Dynasty, 26cm., 10 1/4 in.  

Condition

The vase is in good overall condition with the exception of a 4mm. long hairline firing crack to the rim; a 2cm. vertical hairline crack rising from the footring; a 1mm diam iron-spot to the side of the vessel; and a circa 4 x 7cm. area of misfiring to the glaze on the lower body. The cover is in good condition with the exception of a circa 1cm polished area to a misfired gritty section of the rim.
